Feminine Magic , 2022
75 x 75 cm (h x w)

I wanted to create an artwork which was both visually tasty to look at in terms of colour and also have some references to the corannulene molecule without taking away from the main subject, which is the woman. I tried to make the pillars behind her look like test tubes of liquid corannulene and put crystals in her dress. I also tried to incorporate the corannulene molecule structure into the ceiling. I wanted the woman to portray power and confidence, reflecting the pride of women in chemistry and being at the forefront of innovation, but at the same time not be reduced in her femininity in what is traditionally seen as a masculine domain.
