La Virgen de Guadalupe , 1691
Oil on canvas

Purchased with funds provided by the Bernard and Edith Lewin Collection of Mexican Art Deaccession Fund (M.2009.61)
There were multiple painters with the surname ‘de Arellano’. The work’s signature points in the direction of Antonio Arellano but stylistically suggests a possible collaboration between Antonio de Arellano (l634–1714) and his son Manuel de Arellano (1662–1722).
