12 years of war , 2023

The war has brought one of the largest education crises in recent history. In 2011, Syria had a 97% attendance rate for primary school. However, by late 2022, only two-thirds of schools were fully functional, while there were 2.4 million children out of school and 1.6 million at risk of dropping out. These children fall prey to child labour, early and forced marriage and trafficking. The classrooms are overcrowded and tens of thousands of teachers have left the country.
