“These works present men who solicit for daywork outside of Home Depot. As the interviewer, I ask questions in relation to the space they occupy. Their gathering is structured and communal, and for years has been pegged to the housing market. For many, the space is a refuge. Imagery for the video is sourced from Google Maps while the interview audio is mistranscribed using Google’s Transcribe Live. Omission of a translation is intentional.

“Speaking to the New York Times, Joe Turner, director of Save Our State, explained that Home Depot ‘has a vested interest in keeping day laborers around because contractors use the store as one-stop shopping to obtain their materials and their workers.’ In the interview, certain men talk about their lives as migrants and how stores that are adjacent to Home Depot treat them.”
