A Populated MIND , 2023
115.5 x 150 x 3 cm (h x w x d)
Dance

Referring to many sources we have analyzed in Humanities Core, such as Arrival (2016), Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang, and Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, this filmed dance performance centers on individual perspective. The MIND in the title refers to the main character’s racing thoughts. Each “portal” leads to a new lived perspective, sharing some resemblance to the others, yet having a unique ending. The character’s shifting gaze allows them to pursue their own ends and break away from cycles of repetition, structure, and expectations that make them stuck. The dancers illustrate more diverse outcomes that can be cultivated through their imagination.
