Dreams of Havana
Photopolymer Gravure

Louise is a Derbyshire-based photographer and printmaker whose printmaking practice grew out of her photography and whose twin practices now work alongside, influence, and complement each other. She works across a range of printmaking techniques but particularly enjoys those that lend themselves to the use of photographic images, such as photographic etching, screen printing, and cyanotype, where photography and printmaking can overlap and enhance each other.

Inspiration can come from anything at any time and Louise is happy to go where it leads. There are no overarching ideals behind her practice; some of her work may be more ‘serious’ and meaningful, some light-hearted and whimsical, but mostly it’s simply intended to be pleasing to the eye and the mind. Above all, she makes images for the joy of creating them and in the hope that they’ll bring some of that joy to the people who look at them.
