My good friends were together for over 25 years, but marriage was not legal in Virginia. Finally, when the state enacted a law to legalize same sex marriages, they were able to "tie the knot." When depicting an image of a "couple," of love, of closeness, the bodies we see and showcase in media tend to be heterosexual. I wanted to celebrate these two persons and their union, as they came together for the most important day of their long relationship. To finally be able to say "I do," witnessed by friends and family, was so moving and meaningful. And, in our country, unfortunately, it still takes courage to proclaim who you really are, if your "person" doesn't fit within a normative expectation.
