Permis de Consommer , 2024
150 x 150 x 2 cm (h x w x d)
Physical prototype

On December 31st 1922, the French Governmental Decree named Code de la Route created the Permis de Conduire in order to attempt to limit the ever-growing number of traffic-related fatalities due to drivers’ misconduct. Using the same concept and to mitigate consumption misbehaviour leading to record-high temperatures and number of floods, the Governmental Decree ”Permis de Consommer” (Consumption License) was implemented in March 2036.
This artwork imagines a world where your consumption habits are regulated by a government based on your climate impact. Your Climate Score, calculated and verified by a centralized authority, determines your Rights.
How would you feel if your access to public services, social benefits, voting, travel, and other aspects of your life depended on your environmental behaviour?
