Wisdom In The Room , 2024

Women in American history have shown remarkable persistence, overcoming challenges to make significant contributions to society. Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic and third woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court, exemplifies tenacity and resolve through her journey from a Bronx housing project to the highest court. Another pioneering woman is Ketanji Brown Jackson, who in 2022 became the first African-American woman appointed to the Supreme Court. Born in Washington D.C. in 1970, Jackson overcame adversity to graduate from Harvard and serve both as a federal public defender and on the U.S. Sentencing Commission before her historic nomination by President Joe Biden. As the 116th Justice, Jackson brings a unique perspective from her diverse professional background. The appointments of Justices like Sotomayor and Jackson reflect the increasing diversity of the Supreme Court over time.
