Ancestral , 2023
107 x 72.8 cm (h x w)
Sewn fabric

This piece encapsulates the idea of belonging in your ancestry. My main source of inspiration came from the Gee's Bend Quilts, meant to preserve the African American Quilting Tradition in their community and my own grandmother passing on her knowledge of quilting to me. It set me on the concept of someone being a product of the decisions and choices of ancestors, directly and indirectly as well as a source of hope for the predecessors that will follow. Reminding me that we can only go forward.
