Blinded is part of a larger collection of artworks engaging the question: "How does the world bloom so beautifully?" These artworks focus on people’s careful cultivation of relationships with themselves and others. The painting relates these relationships to different flowers. Blinded focuses on the challenges of the subject’s relationship with his Afro-Latin American identity. While many people assume he's fully Mexican due to his lighter skin, he wants to embrace his African heritage, despite sometimes receiving judgment. The blindfold symbolizes how people can remain blind to seeing the fullness of another person. At the same time, the blindfold serves as a shield from perceived societal judgment and ignorance. In this way, the blindfold operates as a tool of care.
