Horse and Groom in the Wind , 1280

Zhao Mengfu (1254-1322) had been associated with the self-exiled artist circle until 1286 when he left for Beijing to serve the Yuan dynasty. He became famous for his portrayal of horses, which found an appreciative audience among the new Mongol elites. Is this painting of a windy day, or is he feeling the pressures?
