MUSEUMS 2.0(20) , 2020

2020 represents a crucial year for the future of museums. The Louvre, with more than 10 million visitors every year, is an emblematic symbol of worldwide tourism; tourism that has been harshly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and started a transition towards online setups.
As the Head of Louvre Conseil Sophie Kammerer pointed out, nowadays only 30% of the regular audience is visiting the museum. To recover from the financial and cultural losses 3-10 years will be required.

In this work, the artists display an hybrid museum where physical artworks coexist with digital infrastructures. They want to stress the potential future of museums: empty spaces where only the most popular masterpieces will be displayed and the majority of arts made available only online. This marks a turning point for how art is consumed by masses and the consequences for the art itself.
