This cover not only portrays Marshall positively, as a successful artist, but also memorializes the struggle for equality that African American lawyers in Iowa faced and their ability to overcome and band together. Together, this cover works to defy the negative stereotypes of the past and promote positive perceptions self concepts of African American people.
