In Despair , 2017
Digital art photography

Location: Dominica

"Even though we knew the hurricane was on its way, we all expected a Category 2 storm - not the record-breaking Category 5 behemoth that hit us with full force on September 18, 2017. However, I know many people worried about the homeless and wondered how they would fare through the night.

In Despair, captured on the day after the storm hit, shows one homeless man sitting amongst the rubble. Worn out, muddied, broken... and uncertain about his future."

Artist Biography

Caribbean-based photographer, Yuri A Jones, has been a full-time, professional photographer for less than two years, but he has been capturing nature and people for almost seven years. A qualified and experienced financial services professional, Yuri left the corporate world to follow his passion and has not looked back since.

Specializing in landscape photography and family portraits, so far he has: published a coffee table photography book; published images in the New York Times and ELLE Harper’s Bazaar; has several prints on display at Cabrits Resort and Spa Kempinski; and most recently won the OECS Commission and German Development Cooperation photography competition with the theme 'Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change'.

Yuri has also launched a partnership with the Dominica Infirmary whereby 3% of his online print sales (of Dominican artwork) will go towards that institution as a bi-annual donation.

His love of people and the natural world will continue to fuel his creativity, as he seeks to promote the Nature Island and the wider Caribbean with his work.
