Hopeful
Digital art photography

Location: Grenada

"Mike Noel, endearingly called “Captain”, has led his community in their fight against coastal erosion. For the past 10 years, he has been at the forefront, calling for government intervention in the ongoing land loss faced by the Telescope community. He rallied his community in supporting mangrove restoration efforts; he also led in the installation of boulders, and more recently, tires. He admits frustration with the fact that his entire community is being displaced. Recent climate models for the area predict that the city of Grenville, in the background, will be underwater with a 2-meter increase in sea levels. Despite this, Captain remains hopeful and promises to keep fighting. Captain also mentors young men in his community and teaches them hard skills in mechanics and boating. He is a father to the fatherless, and in some ways, their last line of defense to the ongoing impacts of climate change."
