Unbothered
Digital art photography

Location: Grenada

"In the 1980s, the fringing coral reef was blasted to allow ships easy access to the harbour. Since then, with no protection from the rough Atlantic Ocean, hundreds of meters of land have been lost. This area, once a beloved community pasture for sports, is now fully covered by the sea. Mangroves were the last line of defense, but with only one tree left, the community can only reminisce of a time when they were guaranteed protection by this critical ecosystem. This young man, lying peacefully in the makeshift seating on the mangrove, is still able to enjoy nature's defenses as he disconnects from the world around him. In the forefront, we see boulders placed by community members to safeguard the road from coastal erosion. In the background, we see struggling red mangroves planted 5 years ago, unable to provide the defense their predecessors did."
