Why Don’t You Take A Bite From The Forbidden Fruit? I , 2020/21
100 x 80 x 2 cm (h x w x d)
Oil on canvas

“Why Don’t You…?” is a Symbolist artwork, made up of two canvases, which explores feelings of temptation and desire in relation to taboo and the concept of sin. On the first canvas, Eve’s apple is referenced, as a hand provokingly offers the fruit both to the viewer and the figures opposite. The forest and the moon aid to create a tranquil mystery, while also neutralizing the vibrant color-scheme. The piece is inspired by Symbolism and Primitivism, in particular Gauguin’s Tahitian works.
