Narrative of a Gaze , 2021
Prisma colored pencil

The larger theme of this artwork is "frame narratives," the first nod to this being the giant golden frame. Each frame depicts a different narrative, each placed in the frame of another, in an "infinite mirror" sort of way. . . Aside from the first, each frame holds two characters from the works we read in Humanities Core.

Another theme in my work is "the gaze." The subjects are all looking forward at the viewer, as we are infinitely gazing in. If you look down the middle of the corridor, rather than meeting the characters' gazes, it feels like strangers are uncomfortably staring at you.

But approaches capture the essence of why frame narratives are told. They cause the audience to juxtapose realities; because they are ultimately reflections gazing at what's outside the frame. And eventually, they cause self reflection. That's why I am the character in the front, looking outward.
