A roundhouse worker at Canadian National’s Turcot engine terminal in Montreal fills the tender of a CN 4–8–4 amid the swirling steam and smoke of other waiting locomotives on this –12F winter’s day. Turcot yard, with its huge locomotive servicing facility, was the principal railroad center for CN freight operations in Montreal, and served the visiting locomotives of the Rutland and Central Vermont railroads.
