Nous Voulons Voir was made by applying ink onto cotton which is mounted on two wooden sticks. The work has the appearance of a political banner with a slogan that is both humorous and sinister: “we want to see”. Many of Nicola L.’s textile sculptures and performances from the 1970s confronted political issues of the time, such as women’s liberation and government corruption. Briefly associated with Pop Art, Nicola L. made work across a broad range of styles and mediums.
