Title: WHOLE WOMAN, MOON PHASES
According to the Lown Institute, approximately 10% of hysterectomies are done for cancer diagnosis
making most of the remaining 90% of hysterectomies unnecessary. (April 12, 2019). My name is Yolanda
Hatch, Retired Navy Fleet Marine Corpsman, Living in Stone Mountain Ga. In 1995 I became one of the
Statistics mentioned in the above statement. I have always wanted to express my pain and insecurities of
feeling less than a "Whole Women". In making this mask on my invisible wound, I have tried to put at
peace the resting place of my physical Womb of being a “Whole Women” and accept the reality that
despite the unnecessary surgery, I am still experiencing Mother Moon’s Phases as A Whole Women. I
enjoy Expressive art in my leisure time, and I hope this artwork inspires people to ask for Second and
Third opinions when it comes to their Health Care needs.
