Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831–1895): Dr. Crumpler was the first African-American woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. Despite facing pervasive discrimination and limited opportunities for African-American women in medicine during the 19th century, Dr. Crumpler persevered and graduated from the New England Female Medical College in 1864. She dedicated her career to providing medical care to underserved communities, particularly newly freed African Americans in the post-Civil War era. Dr. Crumpler's groundbreaking achievements paved the way for future generations of African-American women in medicine, inspiring countless individuals to pursue careers in healthcare and advocate for equitable access to medical services.
