Callum Rose' Illustrations play with storytelling and test the boundaries of subliminal imagery within printmaking.

He works primarily within screen print and intaglio etching, mostly experimenting with colour, form and hidden messages. When working with etching, Callum was forced to think outside of the box. He uses tone to build a stage like set, with graphic shapes blocking out eye-catching poses. He creates theatrical compositions with layers of story, and focuses on illustrating a significant moment or feeling.

Rose' series of playing card aquatint etchings show the tale of "The Tigers Bride" by Angela Carter, through the lens of each significant character. Each individual is represented by a corresponding 'beast' which best portrays their personality. Various subliminal messages are laced throughout, from nods to their backstory to hints at their role in the wider story.

Rose recently graduated from Cambridge School of Art, after studying Illustration with a strong lean into printmaking throughout. He is currently pursuing a career in collaborative print and freelance illustration, working with various artists to best showcase their work through printmaking.
