Artist Statement

The process of this shot was trying to do something different. I usually take in studio commercial shots but love the view on top of apartment buildings. I feel like you can see the whole city but there are always more buildings behind the others.

I really wanted to take the shot in the morning during the sunrise because in the city there are so many people that start their day so early, before most people are even up. I tried to replicate this “sleeping city” vibe with the darker glass on the buildings and the street below being particularly empty.

Artist Bio

Mattias Gonzalez is a Toronto based commercial and landscape photographer. He developed an interest in photography in high school and decided to try and make a career out of it. He likes the idea of being able to capture products and landscapes in their most beautiful or natural form. A lot of the skills that he developed were developed while in the Humber College photography program where he found his passion of commercial photography.
