Artist Statement

In my art piece, "The Fruit Basket" I tried to use a simplistic yet modern approach but present the subject using the old Renaissance style. I wanted my art piece to look more like a painting rather than just a photo. I feel it’s an interesting dynamic when you create an old style and showcase it in a modern context. Where most artwork nowadays are so commercially driven, heavy with editing striving to attain that perfection, I think a piece like this stands on its own where it can be simple yet appealing and classic at the same time.

The basket represents our life in general and the different fruits represent the various elements in our life. Just like these fruits our life may have sweet moments and sometimes not so sweet moments and at times it could be a combination of bitter sweet moments. If it only had one fruit no matter how sweet it was, that basket would look very boring but it’s the variety of fruits that makes the basket more interesting to look at. Similarly, even in our life, our friends, our family and people whom we love make our life’s basket more colourful, meaningful and more vibrant.

Artist Bio

Photography has always fascinated me as I like the idea of telling stories through pictures. It’s an amazing medium to communicate a thought without using words. I am really amazed to see how a simple picture can be interpreted differently by different people and evoke different emotions.

Born and brought up in the city of dreams and Bollywood “Mumbai” I always had a passion for photography but due to some unavoidable circumstances in my life, I wasn't able to pursue it. But this pandemic and lockdown has allowed me to try out something which I always wanted to do. It was just the perfect time and circumstances to study photography and chase my dreams while being under lockdown.
I have been very much influenced by Bollywood and hence in my pics you will find some kind of cinematic touch. Recently I just completed my study abroad program with Florence University of Arts (FUA) and I must say that the Renaissance style has deeply influenced me and it is reflecting in my artwork. From here on, my pictures may have a fusion of these two amazing mediums of artwork.
