Artist's Statement:
These photographic images are documentation of candy wrappers that I collected from the street in various cities I have visited. Cleaning the Earth, one wrapper at a time. These collections are a record/self-portrait of where I was personally that day as well as a type of portrait of the city. They represent hours and hours of walking and will later be used in architecturally scaled installations.

This portrays a day in a life spent in Athens, Greece. I even found candy wrappers on the dusty grounds of the Acropolis.These particular wrappers become links from this ancient site to me and my creative process.
Bio:
Luisa Caldwell is a multi-disciplinary artist whose works span from mixed-media on paper to architecturally scaled installations and public commissions. The work reflects her interests in color, pattern, and material sustainability. Her recent showings include solo exhibitions at FiveMyles Plus/Space and Smack Mellon in Brooklyn and Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa. Caldwell has been reviewed by The NYTimes, Art in America, and ArtNews, among others, and is in many public and private collections most notably at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Deutsche Bank, and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation. Caldwell lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, and Pove del Grappa, Italy.
