I am an MFA candidate at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. My current work focusses on the ephemeral aspects of nature, preservation, and growth. My conceptual work now is far more minimal but in my earlier works I focussed on the connection of human and nature through symbolic portraiture. In these works I used specific flora or fauna as symbols for the lived human experience. Mourning Doves symbolize strength through grief and resilience. Sunflowers and dragonflies symbolize change and transformation. Pairing these symbols with portraits of people speaks on behalf of their experience and shows how nature and human are inherently connected.
