Sharona served 14 years in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. Her career was cut short after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She currently lives in Orlando, Florida, with her daughter.

Learning to live with limited mobility and various cognitive deficits has been a continual struggle. As she pushes through the challenges of living with a chronic illness, she has found that art provides a great outlet for relief from daily stressors.

Sharona started learning to embrace her artistic skills when she was accepted into the VA's Vocational Rehabilitation program. Sharona enjoys learning about new art techniques, including traditional and digital styles.

How long have you been painting/creating?
Three years

What impact has art had on your journey?
I think art has been a great tool for me in my mental health journey. It helps with bringing down my anxiety and focuses my attention when I feel overwhelmed.

What is your favorite type of genre to create?
So far, I enjoy still life.
